Forge is made from a heathered blend of 70% U.S. Merino (sourced in Colorado and New Mexico), and 30% U.S. Corriedale (sourced in New York) wool. Forge is a round, well-balanced three-ply yarn. It has a beautiful balance of stitch definition, bounce, and wooly, cohesive bloom that produces both beautiful stockinette fabrics and eye-popping cables. Forge is fabulous in sweaters, hats, mitts, cowls, and even large-format shawls, and knits up happily on needles in the US 6 - 8 (4.00 mm to 5.00 mm) range.
Forge is spun at Battenkill Valley Fibers in Greenwich, New York, and dyed at Caledonian Dyeworks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
A quick note about color: we know there's nothing more frustrating than yarn that looks one color online and another when it shows up at your door. We've used a fine art reproduction camera and studio lighting to capture true-to-life colors; this means they're optimized for accuracy, not for "pop" on your screen. Still, for best results, you'll want to view them on a color-calibrated screen; a modern smartphone or tablet with the brightness turned up works great.
